April 15th 2012 marked the beginning of Human Impact Institute’s newest venture:EcoPreneurs. The program, aimed towards the small businesses of North Brooklyn, provides strategies for the money saving, consumer approving mission of sustainability. These low to no investment methods, including those with already established programs such as a free energy audit with NYSERDA and the free adopt-a-tree offer from MillionTreesNYC, will correspond with a monthly conservation theme:
April: Energy Assessment
May: Bike Month NYC
June: $hock Your Energy Bills
July: Tree Stewardship
August: Be Hip, Don’t Drip!
September: Don’t Be Trashy, Recycle!
October: Cracks Kill…Your Energy Bills
November: Some Like It Hot (HVAC Awareness)
December: Stop Bagging the Planet (Plastic Awareness)
January: Clean Green (Green Supplies)
February: Keep It Local (Supply Awareness)
March: Giving Back to Brooklyn (Community Service)
By participating, local businesses will be able to cut costs while aligning their business values with the ever-growing sustainable consumer consciousness. Each acting business will be helping make one of the best neighborhoods in the world even better. As for yourself, a consumer with a choice, you have just as much of a duty as businesses to make that choice count. So remember, support your local businesses and keep an eye out for those EcoPrenuers showing the sustainable initiative.
