Help Green the Big Apple, One Community at a Time!

August 13, 2012

Have you ever wished there were more trees in your neighborhood? Have you been dying for a chance to help your community? Want to break free, feel good, breathe cleaner air and make a difference? Well, now is your chance as the Human Impacts Institute(HII) teams up with Groupon Grassroots to transform Brooklyn from an urban jungle to, well, less of an urban jungle. Help us care for 250 NYC trees!

From August, 13th to 19th, pack your lunch and use the $10 to help HII care for street trees in New York City! Groupon has donated their service fees, so 100% of your money goes to cleaning-up, mulching, and planting native species in the neglected tree beds of North Brooklyn.

  • Be one of the first 50 donations of $10 and fund twenty-five community volunteers to care for 250 trees!

  • Help us get over $500: for every additional $500, we will provide one of NYC’s lowest green-space per person neighborhoods with another community tree caring day!

Human Impacts Institute’s Crew Knows Their Trees!

From 1 to 60 years old, HII’s community volunteers have worked hard to care for the City’s precious trees.  In less than two years, the Human Impacts Institute’s Growing Our Roots tree stewardship program has:

  • Help plant new trees! Requested 85 new trees to be planted;

  • Help care for abused city trees! Cared for over 235 trees;

  • Help connect communities to the environment! Engaged over 100 community members in hands-on tree care workshops!

Help small businesses make a difference! In only five weeks, the Human Impacts Institute has worked with twenty-five North Brooklyn small businesses to adopt the trees in front of their stores and given them free tools to care for them (thanks Million Trees NYC!)!
