Learning. Long discussions on ‘green infrastructure.’ Lunches outside. Looking up random information on fishes. And a lot of names with ‘L’. Specifically: Lauren, Lena, LeAnne, Lena (le Deux), and Ilana. With Tierney thrown in for good measure.
Our three interns Lena, Ilana, and Tierney hailed from such exotic locales New York, Connecticut, and California, and each brought their own skills, styles, and humor.
Tierney Henderson worked on the critical fundraising proposals (stay tuned; Willamsburg/Greenpoint!), while we got to experience New York through a Californian’s eyes (how did it look? humid and crowded with shady landlords, but certainly never boring!).
Ilana Newman was our template design maven, and the best event tabling companion one could ask for. She also contributed her knowledge and first-hand experience of consumer products and food allergies - you can check out her article here. Next up: helping to run a pilot program on food allergies at Weslyan.
Last (but never least), was native New Yorker Lena (le Deux), who organized much of our East River Park Summer Series - keep an eye out for her amazing rainwater harvesting brochure and interactive East River State Park map, both available on our website soon! She also helped develop the curriculum and learning theories around our upcoming Youth Leadership Intensive at the Green School in Williamsburg.
We’re going to miss them at the HII office - but they’ll always be part of the HII family, and we know they’re going to keep doing amazing work wherever they are!
