"Owl" is part of "Why are we telling all this history?", a series of new collages that draws upon vintage ephemera and artifacts in order to call attention to human actions that have brought us into this 6th extinction. I make these collages as a meditative exercise, to immerse myself in a heightened awareness of the "loss, shame, and awe" that reflection on the climate crisis provokes. It's not just a matter of inducing people to "go green," become vegetarian or to recycle. It's even more than ensuring that people vote for radical political change. I think it's about enlightenment--and to be enlightened today means realizing that ours is an age of loss and shame.
