RESIST, 2017 Bottle Cap Tapestry / Emma Cotter

RESIST, 2017 Bottle Cap Tapestry / Emma Cotter

Each cap, collected both locally and globally, represents a significant contribution to a larger issue often overlooked or disregarded. The use of simple steel wire to strengthen the collective assembly symbolizes the power of community, echoing the spirit of resistance against societal injustices.

Inspired by the political turbulence surrounding the 2016 election and subsequent activist movements, the artist conceived this artwork as a response to the need for visible expressions of solidarity. Serving as a reminder of the importance of individual action, dialogue and collective resistance against oppression.

Emma Cotter is a Brooklyn based active artist and choreographer with 20+ years experience in picture framing and art conservation.
