New Growth, 2025

Participatory Artwork with Reused Materials, 48x36x12 in.

New Growth is a participatory,  growing installation where viewers are invited to  build an expansive, evolving form by attaching recycled materials to the central armature. Through this hands-on experience, the public is invited to imagine a future where creativity and sustainability go hand in hand.

Free Style Family creates living sculptures that unfold in real-time, shaped by public participation. Their work transforms everyday, discarded materials into towering assemblages, emphasizing both the beauty and abundance of what is often overlooked. By inviting people to build together, their projects blur the line between artist and audience, fostering a sense of shared creation and discovery.

Their installations serve as a call to rethink waste and embrace collective creativity. Using found and recycled objects, they highlight the potential in what is thrown away, turning refuse into remarkable structures. This process encourages dialogue about sustainability while demonstrating how collaboration can generate unexpected and powerful forms of expression.

For over two decades, Free Style Family/Free Style Arts Association has brought large-scale, participatory sculpture to public spaces and institutions such as Storm King, the Queens Museum, and Socrates Sculpture Park.
