Funeral of the Earth is an animated work that follows dust as a witness to deep time, moving across moments that extend far beyond human experience. From prehistoric extinctions to contemporary urban life, these particles carry traces of a world in constant transformation. Gathering in the desert to mourn the Earth’s premature death, dust becomes part of a ritual of transition, marking both loss and continuation. Through a painterly and cinematic approach, the work shifts perspective away from human-centered narratives, inviting viewers to consider the planet as a vast, living entity shaped by cycles far greater than our own.
Jaewon Park is a painter and animator from South Korea, currently based in New York. Her work approaches animation as an expanded form of painting, exploring embodiment through moving images. By combining analog techniques with digital processes, she creates textured, immersive environments that blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space. Her practice engages with liminal states, between cultures, materials, and temporalities, offering meditative reflections on perception, presence, and transformation.
