Practice 42. (Growth) is project where I collect found plastic bags in the streets and tie them up. This process forms a ball of human scale, visualizing our growing plastic impact on the Earth.
About the Artist
Katherine Patiño Miranda works at the intersection of performance, installation and painting. Her works, or practices, are time meditations in dealing with cycles of life and decay and the interdependent relationship between the human and non-human.
Call to Action
I make visible our interdependence as diverse organisms on our planet. Look at the mango. Without the sun rays, the minerals coming from far away galaxies, the worms under the earth, and the people that harvested and transported the mango, the mango would not be on our table.
To make climate change personal, we need to achieve a new understanding of the interdependent nature of our body. Separation or the notion and independent self is the core of our current racial health, economic and environmental crisis. Radical change starts in the micro of taking simple, significant actions.
I challenge you to become aware that we are interdependent with all other living forms on our planet. If we don’t do that we will keep behaving as if the destruction of the rivers, animals, oceans and forest in our planet has nothing to do with us.
